A General Overview for Spectators
(GHF Scores are posted by the Secretary's Booth on Gloria Lane. Final results can be found under the GHF I or GHF II Event Section)
Dressage. This is the most subjective of the three phases. Competitors are scored on a scale of one to ten for each movement of a prescribed routine, and overall for such general qualities as suppleness and impulsion. Total points are then calculated through a percentage-based formula to arrive at a number of penalty points, with lowest scores reflecting fewest faults.
Cross-Country. First refusal at an obstacle: 20 faults Second refusal at the same obstacle: 40 faults Third refusal at the same obstacle: Elimination Time faults (over the maximum limit): 0.4 faults per second Speed faults (under the minimum time for B/N/T divisions only): 0.4 faults per second First fall of rider at obstacle: 65 faults Second fall of rider: Elimination Fall of horse: Mandatory Retirement Fifth refusal on course: Elimination
Stadium. First refusal on course: 4 faults Second refusal: 8 faults Third refusal: Elimination Dropping a top rail: 4 faults per jump Knockdown with a runout: 4 seconds added to time Time faults: 1 point per second First fall of rider: 8 faults Second fall of rider: Elimination Fall of horse: Mandatory Retirement
