GHF Meets New Safety Standards
(from the 1999 GHF Horse Trials Program)

AHSA rule 1755.5 mandates increased and more clearly defined medical coverage than ever before. Groton House fully endorses these rules and has made plans that exceed the minimum requirements.

We have accordingly established the position of Safety Office, with the appointment of Joe Silva, whose sole responsibility, from the planning stages of the event to on-site presence during all phases of competition and scheduled schooling, includes direction and supervision of all medical staff and equipment.

The medical staff, whose primary responsibility is the care and transport of competitors injured during competition or scheduled warm-ups, provides the highest level of pre-hospital care available. Our upgraded Emergency Medical Service staff includes one Paramedic for the Dressage phase and two Paramedics plus one EMT for the jumping phases (Cross-country and Stadium).

There will be a designated ambulance on grounds on Saturday and Sunday. Should airborne evacuation be recommended by the medical staff, the necessary procedures are in place to contact the Boston area coordinator for prompt MedFlight service. As always, the Hamilton Police Department Ambulance will be on call around the clock.
