GHF II Courses
Picture

The 2008 GHF II Horse Trials will have courses for the Training/Novice (TN)*, Training, Preliminary/Training (PT)*, Preliminary, Intermediate/Preliminary (IP)*, Intermediate and Advanced-Intermediate (AI)* levels.

Dressage: All Arenas are Grass.

Open Training & TN**: 2006 USEF Training Test B, Small Arena
Open Preliminary & PT: 2006 USEF Preliminary Test B, Small Arena
Open Intermediate & IP: 2006 USEF Intermediate Test B, Std Arena
Advanced Intermediate: 2006 USEF Advanced Test B, Std Arena

Due to under-subscription, we will not be able to offer the Advanced Intermediate, Intermediate Preliminary, and Preliminary Training divisions. Consequently, entries in those divisions will revert to Open Intermediate, Open Preliminary, and Open Training with their respective dressage tests:
Open Intermediate, 2006 USEF Intermediate Test B-standard arena;
Open Preliminary, 2006 USEF Preliminary Test B-small arena;
Open Training, 2006 Training Test B-small arena.

We will be running the Training Novice division, with 2006 USEF Training Test B.

All Advanced/Intermediate, Intermediate, and Intermediate/Preliminary riders are requested to wear shadbelly/ team jackets as appropriate.

Dressage Schooling Division: Horse Trial competitors are invited to ride an additional Dressage Schooling test. Mail your preference WITH YOUR HORSE TRIAL ENTRY. Every effort will be made to schedule the schooling ride before the horse trial test. The Dressage Schooling show is also open to competitors not participating in the horse trial.

**Note: if the Training Novice division does not have enough demand and the Organizers decide to run an Open Novice division instead, the Open Novice Dressage test will be the 2006 USEF Novice Test B, in a Small Arena. Check on this Web site the week before the event.

Cross Country: The courses for 2008 will be posted on this Web site the week prior to the event, and will be available for walking on Thursday by 3pm. Click on the button above to view the 2007 cross country courses to get an idea of what our competitors face. The cross country terrain is described as good galloping, with open fields and excellent footing (with turf management). All courses are designated as Challenging. Training and Preliminary Riders seeking less challenging conditions should consider GHF I the previous weekend.

Several fences are traditionally part of each course:

Fence 1 - Marty's Fence: This fence, named in memory of Marty Simensen, starts every course and is sponsored by Suffolk Downs.

The Road Crossing: The course crosses the front avenue at the Road Crossing, which usually contains a series of jumps through the woods, across the road, and into the fields. This is an excellent place to watch the course from a shady spot.

The Water Complex (Redesigned in 2002): Depending on the course designer's decision, Horse and rider can approach the water from a number of different directions, each testing the competitors in a different way. The water complex is always one of the focal points of the course, whether it be for a Novice or Advanced horse and rider team. The Water Complex is sponsored by Wm. A. Berry & Son, Inc.

*If sufficient demand. Otherwise, only OI, OP, OT, or ON will be offered. Final decision will be posted here along with the entry status.
